HYPOXI BUSINESS MODEL going from strength to strength. From setting up at home to obtaining distribution rights in the UAE. Allison Pickford lets her story.
“I moved to Dubai in 2003 when HYPOXI was fairly new here. I always struggled with my own weight so I tried HYPOXI and was taken by the results. Having been in the fitness industry for years myself, I decided to look into it as a business and soon bought 2 machines without even having premises ready! I started the business at home while continuing to look for premises for my studio. Little did I know how hard it would be for people to take me and the HYPOXI concept seriously. I kept asking everyone to ‘Please, just give me a chance’. Then, fortunately, when the Town Center in Meadows was completed in 2006, Haiyya Club (a subsidiary of EMAAR Hospitality) offered me a small area inside their club which I was excited to rent. That’s how my story with HYPOXI and BodySmart began.
It’s been a wonderful journey since then. We all work very hard but still want to look good with the pressures of Dubai’s lifestyle. Clients love the results they get from HYPOXI’s gentle exercise, a change many haven’t been able to achieve even after spending hours at the gym. In fact, that’s BodySmart’s USP, we offer quick, safe and effective technology-based exercise for everyone irrespective of their age and fitness level.
In any business, it is important to keep reinventing yourself. I stay up-to-date with the happenings of the industry and invest in training for myself and my team. We have our weekly training sessions wherein we shut shop for 2 hours every Tuesday; this keeps us focused, motivated and results driven. Our strong sales process ensures we achieve nothing less than 50% conversion of all our HYPOXI trials. We even offer Membership Packages for clients with long-term goals and offer attractive discounts on 3, 6 & 12 month packages.
Business has been amazing so much so that we have expanded with the profits BodySmart makes. We now have 3 Authorised HYPOXI-Studios managed by BodySmart that cater to different target audiences across Dubai. We recently relocated from the Meadows Town Center to Barsha Heights while our other branches are in Umm Suqueim 2 and on Sheikh Zayed Road (ladies only). We will soon be opening up our 4th HYPOXI-only Studio.
Owing to the success of HYPOXI in BodySmart, I acquired the Exclusive Distribution of HYPOXI in the UAE in July 2014. Having the distribution enables us to control the quality of HYPOXI-Studios across the UAE and ensure that international standards are met. The distribution also gives me the platform to expand BodySmart further. Our established team with engineers, trainers, marketing and sales team makes it easy for us to roll out more studios across the GCC.
HYPOXI is a simple and profitable model for anyone looking to pursue a business in the health and wellness industry. While HYPOXI can be set up as a standalone studio, it can also easily be incorporated as a value add and USP within an existing business such as a health club, spa, salon, wellness center or aesthetic clinic to increase footfall and optimise revenue per square foot.
